Packages

Five ways to put a few days together.

Each of these is a shape rather than a fixed itinerary — a starting point we adjust once we know who is coming and when. Everything in them can also be arranged separately if none of the five is quite right.

What we run

From one afternoon to a fortnight

Jaalakam

An afternoon

The short one, and the only one that does not involve staying. An introduction to one of the art forms, a canoe on the river and a walk through the village, tea, dinner cooked here, and a performance to end on.

For people staying elsewhere within about an hour's drive.

Three nights

Culture, at the pace of someone who wants to understand rather than tick off. Sessions with Kathakali and Koodiyattam artists, a primer on how a temple festival actually works, the landmarks around Thrissur, live performances, and meals built around a different part of Kerala each day.

Temples of Thrissur

Three or four days

The temples of central Kerala properly, with a car and someone who knows which day to go on: Arattupuzha Sastha, Peruvanam Mahadeva, Vadakkumnathan and others. Performances and Ayurveda alongside.

Built for Indian and Indian-origin guests, since several of these temples admit only Hindus.

PunarNavam

Nine days

Yoga therapy rather than yoga practice, led by Chandran Mash, built around what each person's body actually needs rather than a class everyone follows. Two sessions daily, Ayurveda every day, consultations, and the village in between.

Runs on set dates with a visiting teacher — ask which are open.

Ashtangam

Fifteen days

The longest of the five, and the only one with room for the treatments to run their course. Yoga and pranayama each morning, meditation and chanting in the evening, Ayurveda through the fortnight, and around it the Koodiyattam, the performances, the village and the cooking, so that the rest is not spent waiting between treatments.

Prices depend on the season, how many of you there are and how long you stay, so we quote them on enquiry rather than printing a figure that goes out of date.

One distinction

These are ours. Yours is a different conversation.

Everything above is a programme we run and you join. If you are a teacher or an organiser looking for somewhere to hold your own retreat — your group, your programme, the property to yourselves — that works differently and is worth reading about separately.

Hosting your own retreat

Asking about one

Tell us which, and roughly when

Dates for the fixed-date programmes change each year, and the rest we build around your travel. Either way the first step is the same.
